The truly portable SEM 52-A first appeared in 1971. A nice little strap-on radio that was produced in high numbers. It offers six channels, all crystal controlled, with a total of 26 different frequencies divided in six different channel plans. For more information on these rather special crystals and their frequencies, see Crystals.

The SEM 52-A originally was called SEM 52 - for more information see the previous page - follow the Up link.

The radio uses a rather uncommon fixed headset, to be strapped on to the ear. It offers good sound and a microphone that actually picks up the sound through bone conducting. However, though this headset was allegedly developed on advise of the army, it never was popular with the soldiers. Therefore the SEM 52-A was rather quickly replaced by the SEM 52-S.

A complete radio consists of the following parts:

Height (mm) Width (mm) Depth (mm) Weight (kg)
SEM 52-A transceiver 180 85 36 0,65
Headset 130 100 50 0,2
Antenna 920 30   0,2
Carrying bag 250 130 50 0,33
Battery holder w. batteries 50 60 34 0,18
Full set 1170 130 50 1.36

At the moment I do not offer too much information on SEM 52-A yet - however I wanted to share the as far as I know complete list of parts on this web site, including NSN's and prices.
